That is because freehostia only support web hosting, not file hosting. They are not allowed direct access to their files from other sites. If you do so, they redirect you to their home. That restrict file hosting with the free hosting service. I think that is very good idea....

For that, you should work seriously on server based programs. Those things deals with server request. You can do it in simple version for your site with php. Also you can restrict file accessibility with CHMOD. Other possibility is to work with .htaccess file.

but if you copy and paste you open the file directly aswell,
i guess i could use php to open the files like:
page.php?fileToOpenWithPhp=files/CanadaCartoon.swf
